Earth Defense Force returns

Cult Xbox 360 shooter Earth Defense Force is to get a second next-gen instalment with confirmation from D3Publisher that it will be bringing sequel Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon to Xbox 360 and PS3 next spring.

The first game in the series, which was a budget priced release on Xbox 360 in 2007, won an unlikely cult following thanks to a combination of low-spec B-movie like production values and surprisingly accessible and fun gameplay.

Though easily pinpointed for its comparatively poor visuals, questionable voice acting and basic gameplay the game was the recipient of some glowing reviews, including a 9/10 from Eurogamer and 8/10s from 1UP and GamesRadar.

This time around co-op gameplay is a key feature as developer Vicious Cycle, who again promises casual fun and addictive gameplay”. Up to three players can play simultaneously in a highly-destructable environment. Over 150 weapons are available as well as an extensive set of armour upgrades.

Also included is a six-player online survival mode.
