Former Codemaster head of legal joins Lee & Thompson LLP

Media specialist law firm Lee & Thompson LLP has appointed Julian Ward to the partnership. Ward was previously general counsel and head of legal for Codemasters, and has also worked for Hamlins as head of digital media, and BBC Worldwide where he headed up its business and legal affairs for digital retail and games division.

In his new role, Ward will use his expertise in video game law to provide specialist advice in relation to all forms of digital content, interactive entertainment, digital platforms, online advertising and marketing, and will be working closely with UK and international developers, publishers, broadcasters, rights holders, tech entrepreneurs and innovators.

His appointment follows Lee & Thompson’s merger last year with specialist media litigation firm Forbes Anderson Free, and brings the total number of partners at Lee & Thompson up to 24.

Ward commented: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining Lee & Thompson. The firm has a stellar reputation, known for its vast experience and strong client base across the creative industries. I am looking forward to further developing my practice and I am excited to see the mutually beneficial opportunities that this move will undoubtedly present."

Reno Antoniades, managing partner at Lee & Thompson, added: "We are so pleased that Julian has agreed to join the team. His experience and reputation, particularly in computer games, adds further depth to our offering. Julian’s practice also perfectly complements our digital and social media expertise – led by Mark Ashelford – and our growing presence in marketing and advertising. His skills and specialist knowledge will contribute significantly to our ability to offer the full package of legal services to our dynamic client base across the media, technology and creative industries. It is an exciting move for Julian and for us."
