GMA 2011 FINALISTS: Games Blog

There are just three weeks to go until the biggest night of the year for the UK’s games media. In the run-up to the big event on Wednesday October 26th at Vinopolis, we’re providing a series of features profiling those media brands and individuals in the running for an award.

London Calling
London calling is GameSpot UK’s group blog. It’s the home on the site for all manner of GameSpot UK’s extra-curricular content. This includes off-beat news and community projects, competitions, event information, and more.

Ready Up
Launched in 2007, Ready Up brought together industry professionals and budding games journalists to form the UK’s most diverse gaming community. With a team of writers from all over the UK and every walk of life, the website provides daily blogs, reviews and features with a personal slant and passionate style. Ready Up has had documentaries screened at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, holds a Guinness World Record and have been nominated for a Games Media Award two years running.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun
Rock, Paper, Shotgun is the worlds leading PC games blog. Or, at least, the worlds leading PC games blog called Rock, Paper, Shotgun, which is nearly as good. Since launching in 2007, its grown to thepoint where well over a million monthly readers use it as the marketsquare for all thats new, radical or controversial in PC gaming. Formed by industry veterans Kieron Gillen, Alec Meer, Jim Rossignol and John Walker, RPS covers everything in PC games while quietly pushing the frontiers of non-review-writing.

VG247
VG247 is the fast-growing news service for those looking for a quick yet comprehensive read. The site features hard news, exclusive content, breaking stories, informed gossip and public domain information from around the world. Since launching in early 2008, it has achieved a reputation as a leading games news site, employing a team from Europe and the US to provide unparalleled coverage of global gaming developments.

XboxGameZone
Founded in 2004 by Lisa Bidder, Lee Davies and Rich Best XboxGameZone is a Bristol based gamesblog focused on providing its readers with the latest video games news, reviews, features and interviews. Now in its 8th year XboxGameZone is one of a small number of UK Xbox fansites launched during the early days of Xbox Live still running today and continues to enjoy a dedicated readership.

The Games Media Awards 2011, in association with Grainger Games, take place on Wednesday October 26th at the super chic Vinopolis venue near Borough Market. Greg Davies, top stand-up and star of The Inbetweeners, will be the host for the evening.

Grainger Games has signed up as headline sponsor of the event, with other sponsors already signed up including Microsoft, Codemasters, EA, Sony, Ubisoft, Nintendo, OnLive, Namco Bandai, Trion Worlds, Gamescom, Nordic Games, Konami, Sega, NC Soft, Rising Star Games, Green Man Gaming, Games Tribe, 2K Games and Venatus Media.
