There will be no iPhone 5 tonight

Those hoping to pick up a brand new, redesigned iPhone tomorrow look set for a disappointment.

Less than three hours ahead of Apple’s official San Francisco iPhone event, TNW claims to have word on precisely what the company has planned.

And as has been previously rumoured, the site claims that there will be no iPhone 5. Instead, an updated version of the current device called the iPhone 4S will be revealed.

It sports the exact same external dimensions, though its innards have been significantly enhanced.

The old 5MP camera has been ditched in favour of an 8MG version while Apple’s new Qualcomm chipset, combined with 1GB of RAM and the A5 processor, will provide a significant speed boost.

Considering the longer than expected wait for the new model, the news may disappoint some fans. But that’s unlikely to stop the stampede at retail to be amongst the first to own the newest iPhone.
