Far Cry 5 is the biggest launch in franchise history, and best selling game of 2018 so far

Far Cry 5 has had a phenomenal opening week, becoming the biggest launch in the franchise’s history and the best selling game ever to launch in week 13.

It’s also the biggest launch of the year so far with an enviable amount of copies sold. The chart as a whole has seen a bit of turbulence in the wake of Easter sales, with Call of Duty WWII and Assassin’s Creed Origins reappearing in the Top Ten.

It’s a validating success for Far Cry 5, which has relocated the action to the American heartland, attracting critics over the game’s political content, or lack thereof. It doesn’t seem to have put off the punters though, and has no doubt filled many people’s Easter weekends with the sound of patriotic gunfire. 60 per cent of the game’s sales were on the PS4.

Forza Motorsport 7 has made a surprise reappearance in the chart with a bump in sales following a price adjustment, crashing in at no.9.

The rest of the chart is fairly free of surprises. Last week’s big hitters, Sea of Thieves and A Way Out, are still in the charts, and mainstays like FIFA 18 and Grand Theft Auto V continue to perform.

You know, why not just look at those charts in full. (Data courtesy of GfK/Ukie)
