Final Fantasy XIV surpasses 5m registered users

Final Fantasy XIV currently boasts more than 5m registered accounts worldwide, according to Square Enix.

The milestone has been reached in just two years out from the re-release’s launch, following theshutdown of the original FFXIVin 2012. Square Enix notes that the number excludes those playing via an introductory free trial.

For comparison’s sake: subscription-based MMORPG competitor World of Warcraft has a total of 5.6m paying subscribers, as of Blizzard’s latest finical report.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available on PS3, PS4 and Windows PC.
