Fortnite’s Fall Skirmish announced with $10m prize pot

Epic has announced details of its Fall Skirmish tournament – a six week series of Fortnite matches culminating in finals at Twitchcon, all with a $10 million (£7.6m) prize pot to be doled out as the tournament progresses.

The tournament, starting this coming weekend, will take in different forms of play – both competitive and entertainment-focused. Teams will take part in all manner of different events and be awarded points for their performance – it’s not just about killing all your opponents, it’s about coming out on top in races, being the best at golf, and… well yes, there will be opponent-killing. It’s still Fortnite, after all.

These entertainment play formats are being included as a test bed for bigger events next year, with Epic clearly wanting to vary the focus of its tournament systems. Which is nice for those of us who aren’t the greatest of snipers.

As the post details, players will be able to compete in Showdown Royale from early October: “Which gives an in-game tournament system where our entire community will have an opportunity to compete and earn prizes in future competitive events.”

Smaller payouts and ongoing events will see bits of cash passed out here and there, but the main series finals will arrive at Twitchcon, which is being held October 26-28 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.

Most recently Epic ran the Summer Skirmish, in which around 500 players ended up walking away with a share of the $8 million (£6.1m) prize pot. That series’ overall best performer, MorgausseTV, walked away with a cool $225,000 (£172k).
