GAME wants 30% of online games market

UK retail giant GAME wants 30 per cent of the online video games market.

The firm says it hopes to achieve this before 2014, and will do it via new services and cloud-based technology.

GAME is the UK’s market-leading games retailer, but its online presence has historically lagged behind its rivals, including Amazon. GAME.co.uk currently attracts 800,000 visitors a week, the firm says.

We are looking to grow our online share to 30 per cent in channel by the end of the year,” said chief tech officer Andy Grainger. We have big plans for our online offering. Our stores are vital in driving traffic to our app and website. The more we grow, the more integrated our channels will become.”

The company expects a fifth of customers to shop via mobile devices, and is working with computing giant IBM to recommend products to them in real time.

GAME has invested heavily in its apps, and has launched various new online services, such as a PC download store.
