GameMaker: Studio creator YoYo Games purchased by PlayTech

Online gaming and sports betting software company PlayTech has purchased GameMaker creator YoYo Games for $16.4m.

The deal also includes an earn out clause that carries up to an additional $5.25m if certain, unspecified performance goals are met.

PlayTech states the acquisition is part of the firm’s plans to expand casual gaming operations, with the company already housing development studio Plamee and all of its 120 employees.

YoYo’s GameMaker: Studio game creation kit currently boasts 750,000 registered developers, and GameMaker’s suite of products have been downloaed more than 5m times.
