Government wants internet porn ban

With the very notion of net neutrality currently under threat, it has emerged that the British Government is to ask ISPs to block all online pornography by default on domestic internet connections.

Users wishing to access such material would have to ask providers to have it unblocked. For their ‘friend’, obviously.

The idea is being sold as a way of preventing children accessing adult material online. Many UK ISPs are to meet in January to discuss the proposal.

We are not coming at this from an anti-porn perspective," Tory MP Claire Perry said. "We just want to make sure our children aren’t stumbling across things we don’t want them to see.”

It is unclear what procedures would be used to determine what is and is not defined as adult material and how ISPs would administer such a block.
