Grand Theft Auto V nears 29m units shipped

Grand Theft Auto V shipments are closing in on 29m copies, Take-Two has announced.

The publisher revealed the staggering figure as part of its latest quarterly earnings report, adding that the game’s has surpassed the lifetime total for Grand Theft Auto IV units shipped.

"[Grand Theft Auto V is an] unprecedented success," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said.

"The title received stellar reviews, shattered entertainment industry records and has already sold-in nearly 29 million units to date.

The extraordinary success of Grand Theft Auto 5 illustrates the positive momentum in our business and consumers’ enduring appetite for the highest-quality interactive entertainment."

Grand Theft Auto V launched on September 17th for PS3 and Xbox 360. A PC version is expected at some point down the road, but no official announcement has been made by Rockstar as of yet.
