Grasshopper reveals Black Knight Sword

GAMESCOM: Shadows of the Damned developer Grasshopper Manufacture has unveiled its newest game – 2D platformer Black Knight Sword.

The downloadable Xbox Live and PSN game was shown off to press at this year’s Gamescom. It features picture book-style visuals and 2D platforming combat akin to Konami’s popular Castlevania series.

It’s in production in conjunction with developer-publisher Digital Reality.

A spokesperson at the event said: Black Knight Sword is a blend of old meets new, classic meets fresh.”

This is a side-scrolling action title inspired by Japanese theatre drama. It’s also a modern interpretation of a picture book-type game, with old school action gameplay.

Even through the development is being handled by Grasshopper, the partnership with Digital Reality on the European continent has influenced the setting, tone and background. There’s a lot of European soul injection in there.”

Black Knight Sword joins a host of other titles in development at Grasshopper such as Lollipop Chainsaw, Sine Mora and Codename D.

The studio is headed up by No More Heroes and Killer 7 creator Goichi Suda, also known as Suda 51.
