HMV Ireland could return

Hilco is in discussions with landlords about a possible return to Ireland for HMV.

The Irish arm of the retailer was closed down in February and none of the Irish stores were included in the rescue package that saw the UK business survive on the UK High Street.

Now The Irish Times is reporting that Colliers International has confirmed plans to re-open six of HMV’s Irish stores, with talks currently taking place with landlords in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick.

A reduction in rent and a performance-based top-up element are said to be key to the talks.

HMV used to operate 16 stores in Ireland.
