Intel Extreme Masters Season 11 Prize Pool will be over $1 million

The eleventh season of the Intel Extreme masters has been announced and will feature a prize pool of more than $1 million.

Players and teams in League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and StarCraft II will battle it out over three events during the course of the year in an attempt to secure a spot at the IEM World Championships that will be held in Katowice, Poland in March 2017.

For the first time in eight years the Intel Extreme Masters will head to Korea, with a massive stadium event in Goyang, Korea planned for December 17th and 18th. Just before that IEM will head to Oakland in California for another stadium event on the 19th and 20th of November. This new Oakland event will replace IEM San Jose, which has featured in the IEM calendar for the last two years, and will be held in a bigger venue. The first event on the IEM Season 11 calendar is at the ChinaJoy Expo in Shanghai and will take place between July 28th – 31st. Of course the IEM World Championships will return to Katowice, Poland and will most likely be held in the Spodek Arena again.

The increased prize pools have, for the first time in Intel Extreme Masters history, brought the total prize pool for the season to over $1 million. This will hopefully keep the top teams and players attending the events.

It’s a big deal for us to be doing a three stadium IEM season,” says Michal Blicharz VP Pro Gaming at ESL. Adding one in Korea of all places is historic and will make Season 11 more special than any other before.”
