JAPAN: MW2 breaks into Top Five

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has followed the trend set by fellow Western epic Grand Theft Auto IV by breaking into the higher echelons of the Japanese software charts.

The game, which is published in Japan by Square Enix, managed an impressive fourth place finish in the listings behind New Super Mario Bros Wii, Tales of Grace and Tomodachi Collection.

In total the PS3 version sold 93,000 units in its first week, though that’s some way behind New Super Mario Bros Wii’s 431,000 weekly sales. Nintendo’s game has now sold just shy of 1m units in Japan.

In the hardware charts Wii once again climbed ahead of PS3 with sales of 136k and 75k respectively. Interestingly, Xbox 360’s 11k were far ahead of Sony’s PSP, which sold just over 3k.
