Kinect offers Sky TV control

Microsoft and Sky have confirmed that Sky Player offer an interesting array of compatibility features with the motion camera Kinect come its launch on November 10th.

The service, which allows users to watch a range of Sky programming on their Xbox 360, will be fully controllable using both gesture and voice recognition – much in the same way as the ESPN functionality demoed at E3 earlier in the year.

Channels can be selected by the wave of a hand while a host of commands such as pause, fast forward and rewind can be activated by simply speaking them aloud.

Key new functionality such as this will play an important part in allowing Microsoft to extend Kinect’s appeal to even broader demographics. It’s easy to imagine how tech-savvy customers will be very keen to add such a show-stopping addition to the front room set-up.
