Microsoft claims 10m milestone for Kinect

Over 10m Kinect devices and 10m Kinect games have been sold worldwide, Microsoft has announced.

In fact the format holder, with Guinness World Records’ support, is claiming it’s the fastest selling consumer electronics device ever after hitting the milestone just over three months after launch.

The device "sold an average of 133,333 units per day for a total of eight million units in its first 60 days between November 4th 2010 and January 3rd 2011" the two said.

Since then, though, the number of Kinect software releases has quietened down somewhat post-Christmas. But Microsoft says more ‘transformative Kinect games and entertainment experiences are to come’.

These include the new Avatar Kinect ‘marionette’ functions for Xbox Live player characters, plus third party titles Body and Brain Connection” (Namco Bandai), Michael Jackson The Experience (Ubisoft), Child of Eden” (Q Entertainment/Ubisoft), XBLA title The Gunstringer (Twisted Pixel Games) Kung Fu Panda 2 video game (THQ), Carnival Games: Monkey See, Monkey Do (2K Play) and Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster (Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment).
