Minecraft console sales exceed lifetime PC figures

The console editions of Minecraft have sold past the life to date total of its original PC platform.

Developer Mojang took to Twitter today to announce Xbox 360 and PS3 versions have combined to surpass Minecraft’s Windows PC and Mac offerings in sales.

Microsoft debuted the title on Xbox 360 some 18 months after it originally launched. Sony’s PS3 began carrying the game more than two years following the November 2011 worldwide release on Windows PC.

The studio confirmed this past February that the two computer platforms had tallied more than 14m units sold, while the Xbox 360 edition sold past 12m copies between retail and digital sales as of April.

Adding in mobile platforms, Mojang states the indie phenomenon has sold nearly 54m copies across all platforms.
