Minecraft XBLA hits 3.6m copies sold

Mojang has announced the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft has sold 3.6m copies since its May launch.

"Was really surprised to see that 3.6 million people have now purchased Minecraft for Xbox," Mojang’s Daniel Kaplan wrote on Twitter.

Add to that over 7m sold on PC (as of earlier this month), plus well over 1m moved on mobile devices (milestone was reached in March), and it’s not a stretch to throw out a ballpark figure of 12m units sold lifetime across all platforms.

The game continues to sell at a very high level on the 360, in the process giving the often criticized XBLA platform a major boost (at least for the time being). 4J Studios, developer of the port, is currently working on a significant update for the version as well.
