MLG-created multiplayer shooter inevitable, says CEO

Major League Gaming CEO Sundance DiGiovanni believes his eSports organization creating a first-person shooter is a matter of when, not if.

Speaking with Penny Arcade Report, MLG’s head honcho stated that it was inevitable” and that people have already approached the group on the matter.

Right now we want to focus on partners with games like PlanetSide 2 and help them broaden out and take advantage of what we’ve built. But we can also take advantage of their understanding of the game mechanics. We’ve done this with folks at Bungie, with folks at Activision, we’ve done it with lots of studios. We’ve done that enough times to have the understanding to take to our own title, eventually.

I don’t want to rush, I’d probably create an arena shooter and have people say I’m crazy. It’s not time for that. That time has passed, but who knows?”

MLG saw record-breaking viewership numbers in 2012, with representatives stating on several occasions that the explosion in growth will continue this year.
