Nintendo to charge for online gaming?

Nintendo’s legend Shigeru Miyamoto has mulled over charging users to play the Wii and DS online.

The creator of Mario and Zelda told Edge: We are desperate to realise the core online business structure.”

Do we need to demand customers pay monthly fees to enjoy online activities or give an online subscription that is free of charge, but then offer something extra for people that pay so they get extra value?

With these core business strategies I think we are less active than we should be.”

Currently the Wii and DS are free to use when connected to the internet. In comparison Microsoft charges users 39.99 per year to access the full benefits of Xbox Live. Sony has also said it is considering new payment models for its PSN service which is currently free.

Miyamoto previously said his best work is yet to come”.
