Official: GTA IV sells 6.3m worldwide

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV is 2008’s biggest selling game so far, shifting a whopping 6.29 million copies since January 1st.

New stats from the Top Global Markets Report – compiled of data from GFK (Europe), NPD (US), ChartTrack (UK) and Enterbrain (Japan) – shows the title has sold just under a million more than the second biggest-seller, Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros Brawl.

4.71 million US consumers have bought GTA IV, with their UK counterparts snapping up 1,58 million copies.

According to MCV sister site, CasualGaming.biz, Super Smash Bros Brawl has sold 5.43 million units, followed by Mario Kart Wii with 4.7 million and Wii Fit with 3.6 million.

Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock is the fifth best-selling game of the year so far, with 3.48 million unit sales.
