ORG plans Digital Economy Bill protest

The Open Rights Group has announced that it is to organise a public protest in response to the Lords’ passing of the Digital Economy Bill.

The campaign page on the organisation’s website reads: It’s time to show MPs what we think about the Digital Economy Bill.

As it stands now, the Bill, if passed into law, will allow disconnection, web blocking and could well see the death of open wi-fi. We’ll provide placards, just bring some black tape for gagging or blindfolding yourself.

Disconnection is collective punishment. It is unacceptable. It is unfair and it is disproportionate.”

The ORG’s executive director Jim Killock added to the BBC: Lord Mandelson is preparing to rush through this draconian legislation without democratic debate. We are calling for massive campaign of citizens to demand that their MPs debate this dangerous bill.”

The demo will take place on Wednesday March 24th at Old Palace Yard opposite Parliament, next to Westminster Abbey.
