Cameron Foote confirms indefinite halt of Just Cause 3 multiplayer add-on as a result of rolling work into future projects at studio

Avalanche Studios hires creator of Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod

The fan modder behind Just Cause 2’s highly popular multiplayer mod has been recruited by the studio behind the game itself, Avalanche.

Lead developer Cameron Foote and his team created an unofficial multiplayer mode for the PC version of the 2010 open-world – and formerly single-player-only – title.

They had been planning to bring a similar mode to its follow-up, last year’s Just Cause 3, but Foote has now confirmed that the mod would be placed on “indefinite halt” following his move to Avalanche.

“Several months ago, I was approached with an offer I couldn’t refuse: to join Avalanche Studios Sweden as a developer so that I could work on projects present and future,” he explained.

“As part of Avalanche, I’ll be able to bring many of the things you know and love from JC2-MP into future Avalanche experiences, while reaching heights that a mere mod couldn’t facilitate.

“Unfortunately, due to time constraints, neither I or the rest of the team can actively pursue development on JC3-MP; our lives are just too busy to allow for it right now.”

However, Foote added, the multiplayer in Just Cause 2 would be maintained “where appropriate”.

“While we’re not actively adding new features, we will fix bugs, maintain stability, and ensure that JC2-MP remains a quality experience for players present and future,” he promised.

“We’re still searching for solutions to our most prevalent issues (including AMD compatibility without workarounds); hopefully, we’ll be able to make headway in the future.”
