ESL One Frankfurt to be broadcast on German TV

ESL today announced that the upcoming ESL One Frankfurt Dota 2 tournament will be broadcast on German TV channel SPORT1.

The free to view station that is primarily known for its traditional sports broadcasts, will show the grand final of the event at 8pm CEST on June 19th. The other matches in the competition will be streamed on the SPORT1 website and the broadcaster will be offering significant written coverage online. This will be the first eSports event to be broadcast on SPORT1.

"It has always been our dream to make esports one of the world’s most popular sports," said Ralf Reichert, Managing Director of ESL. "To distribute our content through traditional television channels isn’t just an opportunity that lies close to our hearts: it is also a milestone that when reached will help grow esports and its popularity."

ESL One Frankfurt kicks off on Friday behind closed doors, before moving into the Commerzbank-Arena for the knockout stage on Saturday and Sunday. A $250,000 prize pool is up for grabs with many of the best teams in the world set to battle it out in Germany, including Manila Major winners OG.
