Online game studio Motiga has raised $20 million to develop free-to-play PC title Gigantic.
As reported by VentureBeat, The US developer has been working on the MOBA-esque title under the radar for the last two years, with employees coming from the likes of Blizzard, SmileGate, NetEase and NeoWiz.
The team aims to release Gigantic, which pits two teams of five and an AI guardian against each other, in 2015.
“Gigantic has been a labour of love by everyone at Motiga, and we are excited to share the game with everyone,” said Motiga CEO Chris Chung.
“We have been conducting small-scale public tests for the past few months and have been grateful for all the positive response from our testers.”
Free-to-play PC games have become increasingly popular across the world in recent years. According to SuperData, Nexon’s Dungeon Fighter Online made $1.3bn in 2013 alone, with at least eight other PC F2P titles making over $100m last year.
