Over 4,000 people sign up for Street Fighter V tournament at EVO

More than 4,000 people have signed up for the Street Fighter V tournament taking place at this year’s EVO.

The event, which is due to take place between July 15th to 17th in Las Vegas, will feature many tournaments for multiple fighting games, but Street Fighter V is set to be larger than all of them.

Registrations for the tournament opened back in February and quickly surpassed the amount of entrants for last years Ultra Street Fighter IV tournament. Then earlier in the week EVO organisers announced that this year’s Street Fighter V event has passed the 4,000 players mark. Making it the biggest fighting game tournament in history.

With over 4,000 players the prize pool for the competition will be over $90,000. $50,000 of that will come from Capcom, as the tournament is part of the Capcom Pro Tour, and the other $40,000 will come from the $10 that each player adds to the pool. With no closing date for registrations the final prize pool could end up being considerably larger.

EVO 2016 will also feature tournaments for Pokken, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Wii U, Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat XL, Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
