Sky invests in Ginx TV

Sky plc has invested 1.55 million in Ginx TV, the company behind Ginx eSports TV, the only 24 hour eSports TV channel in the UK.

ITV has also invested the same amount into Ginx TV, with both companies having the option to acquire further holdings.

We’re really excited to have followed up our commercial partnership with Ginx with this investment, which will help us deepen our understanding of eSports and its audience,” said Emma Lloyd, Group Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Sky. At Sky we are committed to bringing new programmes and channels such as GINX eSports TV to support and extend our leadership position in content.”

Having launched the channel a few months ago Ginx has already broadcast major eSports events such as Turner’s ELEAGUE tournament, FACEIT‘s eSports Championship Series, and Valve’s The International 6, along with some original programming such as the IRL documentary series. Generally the channel has been heralded as a success, although has received criticism due to the timing of ad breaks.
