Ubisoft Reflections’ surprise PC shooter Atomega releases next week

Ubisoft’s Reflections studio has announced it’s releasing a brand-new PC game in just over a week’s time. Entitled Atomega, the online multiplayer FPS has seemingly come out of nowhere, joining Gunpoint dev Tom Francis’ new title Heat Signature (which also launches next week) in a number of surprise release announcements last night.

According to Ubisoft, Atomega came from the same internal incubator program that saw the creation of indie darlings Grow Home and Grow Up, and will launch as a digital only title on September 19th 2017. It was "made with a creatively experimental mind-set," the statement read, and will seek "to create unusual concepts which will surprise and delight players."

Little is known about the game at the moment – having skipped potential reveals at both E3 and Gamescom this year – but Ubisoft has said eight players will be able to take part in ten minute-long battles, and the team with the highest number of points wins the round.

"It is a relentlessly competitive experience, an easy to pick-up but hard to master game, with a light-hearted tone echoing the personality of its small development team," the statement said.

The setup is that the game takes place at the end of time where all that exists are advanced beings known as Exoforms. As masters of matter and energy, players must acquire mass by collecting or fighting other Exoforms, eventually evolving these creatures into "godlike" Omega creatures. Get the most mass and your team will win.

Atomega launches next Tuesday as a Steam only title. To see the game in action, have a watch of the trailer below:
