Windows 10 launching this summer

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 will be released around the world this summer.

The new operating system will initially be available in 190 countries and in 111 languages, and will be available for free for the first year to any customers that already run Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows Phone 8.1 on their devices.

Windows 10 marks a major new strategy for Microsoft, which hopes to use the OS to unite all of its platforms – including Xbox One – via universal apps. It will even enable Xbox owners to play games against PC users.

The launch window for Windows 10 was revealed via Microsoft’s official blog, where it also detailed plans to bring the operating system to millions of PC users in China. 

Microsoft have formed partnerships with a number of leading Chinese firms, including gaming giant Tencent, which will offer Windows 10 as a free upgrade to all of its customers using WIndows 7 and 8.1

Tencent will also bring its most popular PC games to Windows 10 and the new Windows store.
