Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 to feature AFC Champions League

A partnership between Konami and the Asian Football Confederation will see the AFC Champions League officially featured in future PES games, starting with this year’s PES 2014.

Like its European counterpart, AFC Champions League consists of 32 elite clubs from Asia and Australia.

Don’t expect to see an Indian club in there though. As per AFC’s assessment, India currently doesn’t meet AFC Champions League criteria. The top two Indian clubs instead feature in the AFC Cup, which won’t be playable in PES.

The AFC Champions League will appear as a dedicated game mode, where the player can choose one of the tournament’s 32 teams.

While PES lacks licenses to several domestic leagues, such as the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga, Konami has been acquiring licenses to continental club competitions over the years.

PES now holds official licenses to the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League in Europe, South America’s Copa Libertadores, and now Asia’s AFC Champions League.

Konami recently announced that PES 2014 was headed to current and next-gen consoles and that it was being developed using a modified version of the Kojima Productions’ FOX Engine.
