PS4 sees fantastic French debut

The PlayStation 4 is off to roaring start in France.

According to French video game website GameKult, Sony’s new console has sold 100,000 units since it launched on November 29th. The Xbox One, however, has sold less than half that figure.

Both are still being outsold by the Wii U, which has an install base of over 160,000 units in France, but that console had a year’s head start. Nintendo’s next-gen platform has also seen a recent surge in sales thanks to Super Mario 3D World.

But Sony isn’t just beating Microsoft in France. The PS4 has sold 80,000 units in Spain, compared to 25,000 from Xbox One. And Sony’s console is outselling Microsoft’s in the UK, of course.

GameKult estimates that half a million PS4s have been sold in Western Europe, but only 300,000 Xbox Ones.
