PSP gets surprise PSOne boost

Though it was the

Blu-Ray enhancements

that caught the headlines following Sony’s recent firmware updates for its two leading games consoles, a surprise inclusion that wasn’t talked up before is the new ability for PSP to play PSOne titles on the move.

Not only does the update allow PSOne titles purchased on the PlayStation Store to be played anywhere, it also allows PSP to stream games from a PSOne disc that are being played on a PS3 via the Remote Play function – providing both machines have access to a wi-fi internet connection.

The only other obstacle gamers will have to tackle is the PSP’s lack of four shoulder buttons – though customising in-game controls should see that settled with the vast majority of titles.
