85% of retro gamers buy new titles

The vast majority of retro fans actually keep up to date with the latest releases – not just the classics.

A recent survey by the Imagine-published Retro Gamer, which focuses primarily on titles from previous generations of consoles, shows that 85 per cent of its readership owns current gen gaming devices.

The team behind the GMA-winning magazine claim that download services, such as Xbox Live Arcade, are key to maintaining retro fans’ interest in newer formats.

It’s no surprise to learn that so many of our readers use modern day consoles and computers when playing games,” said Retro Gamer editor Darran Jones.

All three current gen systems allow gamers to play classic games from yesteryear.

With publishers revamping franchises like GoldenEye, our readers are getting the best of both worlds.”
