Alone in the Dark studio Eden Games closes

Lyon-based studio Eden Games has been shut down by parent company Atari.

As reported by Eurogamer, the Alone in the Dark and Test Drive Unlimited developer was place into liquidation at the end of January this year.

In May 2011, Atari was believed to have laid off most of the developer’s staff, with 51 employees out of 80 said to have been made redundant.

In April last year, Atari announced that it was in the process of shutting down the developer for good.

Founded in 1998, Eden Games’ last title was Test Drive Unlimited 2, released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2011. Prior to that, Eden had developed titles such as Alone in the Dark, the V-Rally series and Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed.

The news of its closure comes after Atari’s US arm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year in an attempt to break away from its French parent company.

The US business was looking to complete bankruptcy proceedings so it would emerge almost debt free, as it had a heavy financial reliance on London-based BlueBay Asset Management.
