Best Buy introducing specialist games staff

Mammoth US retailer Best Buy is to introduce dedicated teams and sales desks to its video game departments in store, according to a leaked presentation document.

Gamasutra
reports that senior VP Chris Homeister has told employees that the company plans a "gaming transformation as part of a drive toward number one industry position in the game software market".

Currently it sits behind both GameStop and Walmart in terms of US market position in the sector.

Staff will be trained to "drive customers to pre-order titles and purchase exclusive digital add-ons". It also intends to emphasise the fact that trade-in credit given to gamers can be spent on anything in-store.

The plans are scheduled to come into effect in the current fiscal year which ends February 2012.
