BinWeevils appoints new CEO

Rod Henwood has been named as the new CEO of kids’ virtual world BinWeevils.

Henwood, an existing BinWeevils board director, succeeds former CEO Richard Watney.

He joins having recently served as the CEO of JK Rowling’s digital Harry Potter empire Pottermore. Before that he worked as new business director at Channel 4 where he helped to launch the 4OD service and has also served as MD for Fox Kids UK.

I am delighted to be taking on the role of CEO at such an exciting time in BinWeevils development and to have the opportunity to build on Richard Watney’s achievements,” Henwood stated.

Online social worlds represent a safe and stimulating way to introduce kids to digital gameplay, within a moderated environment. We aim to build on our success to date by extending our service onto tablets and smartphones, as well as into International markets.”

Comscore data ranks BinWeevils as the UK’s number one digital social world. The site, which has over 2m active monthly users, won the BAFTA Kids Vote for best website in both 2011 and 2012.
