Studio to offer full source code access to CryEngine for free to students and researchers

Crytek launches VR First initiative to encourage grassroots virtual reality development

Crytek is hoping to encourage the next generation of developers to create for virtual reality, with a new campaign aimed at VR education.

The VR First programme will see the German studio team up with academic institutions around the world to support further exploration and use of virtual reality.

Students and researchers that partake in VR First will be offered complete access to the source code of Crytek’s CryEngine suite of tools for free.

Beneficiaries will also be granted use of free hardware, such as headsets and VR-compatible computers, from other VR First partners.

The inaugural VR First Lab has now been opened at Istanbul’s Bahçe?ehir University, serving as a pilot for the ambitious scheme.
