Crytek scoops Imagina Award

Crytek has tonight won the award for ‘Best Simulation in Real Time’ at the 2010 Imagina awards for its CryEngine 3.

The game engine was released in October 2009, and is currently being used to develop Crytek’s own FPS Crysis. The engine supports Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and purports to be ‘next gen ready’. German-headquartered Crytek is also promoting CryEngine 3 as a tool for the development of simulations and educational software.

Also recognised at the event was the James Cameron movie Avatar, which took the ‘Special Prize’ accolade that is the Imagina conference’s prime award. Earlier in the day, Nolan Murtha of Avatar movie studio Lightstorm Entertainment joined Ubisoft Montreal’s animation project manager Xavier Rang to lead the conference’s Media and Entertainment keynote, where the pair discussed stereoscopic 3D and the convergence of game development and filmmaking. After the seminar Murtha spoke to Develop about how game development informed the creation of Avatar, which is now the world’s most popular film ever at the box office.

The gongs, presented this evening at the mid point of the three-day Imagina conference in Monaco, strive to represent the best in entertainment media, architecture, industrial design and landscape and territory technologies.
