Disney unveils Epic Mickey

Disney’s new Epic Mickey – a Wii title that effectively ‘reinvents’ Mickey Mouse – was finally announced today.

Confirmed at a London event after almost a year of speculation – and a long tease through US consumer site Game Informer – the title has been revealed as an action platformer game.

The title is being developed by Warren Spector at his Junction Point Studio, which Disney acquired in 2008.

Animation-buff Spector told a press conference of journalists from around the world that his plan was to tap into Mickey’s rich history and Disney’s classic animation IP – and separately confirmed to the Develop that the plan is to make the character relevant to new audiences.

Mickey is an adventurous and rambunctious mouse,” said Spector.

I want to bring his personality to the forefront, place him in a daunting world and connect his spirited character with video game players worldwide. Ultimately, each player decides for him- or herself what makes Mickey cool."
