New mobile title designed to help people learn how to make games with Unreal Engine 4

Epic launches Unreal Match 3, a game to educate devs

Epic Games has released a match-three game that developers can thoroughly explore in order to learn how it was made.

Available as a free title on Google Play, with an iOS version on the way, Unreal Match 3 is also freely available through the Epic Games Launcher’s Unreal Engine Learn tab. Devs and wannabe games makers will be able to access the art assets, Blueprint scripts and source code behind the game.

The purpose of this release is that Epic hopes to help people learn how to make mobile games and apps with Unreal Engine by demonstrating the tech in action. Unreal Match 3 was developed by the learning resources team at Epic in just a few months, and covers a range of key topics.

Topics covered include: using in-game ads and in-app purchases for monetisation; using analytics to monitor player behaviour; using the vibration function of mobile devices and controllers; best practises when creating user interfaces; optimising mobile performance; and more.
