Metal Gear Survive is a co-op action game heading to consoles and PC next year

First Kojima-less Metal Gear emerges

Konami has unveiled the first new entry in the Metal Gear franchise that will be developed without series creator, Hideo Kojima.

Announced during Gamescom 2016 in Cologne, the title – Metal Gear Survive – is a online multiplayer-centric title in which players have to co-operate as they face new enemies and harsh environments.

The game is set in the aftermath of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. During the destruction of Snake’s Motherbase, unexplained wormholes open in the sky and draw in the remaining soldiers. Characters take control of these survivors, stranded in distorted desert landscapes, and team up in groups of up to four.

Metal Gear Survive will continue the mix of stealth and action defined in Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, and presumably runs on the Fox Engine that was specially created for these titles.

The title is heading to Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2017. You can check out the debut trailer below.

We recently interviewed Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima after his Development Legend win at this year’s Develop Awards.
