Former Square Enix tech boss joins Konami’s new European office

Julien Merceron has been named as Konami’s new worldwide technical director.

Merceron had served as Square Enix’s worldwide technology director since early 2010, before which he was worldwide CTO at Eidos for nearly four years. Prior to this he worked in a similar role at Ubisoft.

In his new role Merceron will work from Konami’s new European headquarters in Windsor and will contribute directly to the development of future versions of the Fox Engine which powers, among others things, PES 2014 and Metal Gear Solid 5.

Julien brings with him an incredible awareness of how to take games as an entertainment force forward,” Konami European president Shinji Hirano stated.

He will be a key member of our talented development community and be integral to ensuring that future titles will push the limits of what can be technically achieved, while ensuring they retain Konami’s famed gameplay. We welcome him and his talents to the team.”
