Free-to-play Halo Online heading to Russia

The Halo franchise is set to branch out into the free-to-play market, as 343 Industries has announced Halo Online for exclusive release in Russia on Windows PC.

A new post on Halo Waypoint reveals that the game is currently in closed beta in the territory, and like Call of Duty Online in China, it’s not likely to expand to other regions for quite some time. The FAQ also confirms that there’s no plans to bring the title to either Xbox One or Xbox 360 consoles.

"Halo Online was built from the ground up specifically for the PC," the post reads. "There are no plans to bring Halo Online to the Xbox One."

According to 343, the title is a free multiplayer-only PC experience based on a modified version of the Halo 3 engine. The game is being developed in conjunction with Saber Interactive, notable for working on the HD remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved as well as assisting with Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

The post also notes Halo Online has no definitive launch date” as of yet.
