Servers will shut off in December as active user numbers fall

Gameforge axes free-to-play game following layoffs

German publisher Gameforge is to terminate operations of its free-to-play game Katsuro, in what is said to be primarily due to sinking user numbers.

The game’s servers will switch off on December 19th, a community spokesperson for the company said.

“The number of players has significantly reduced and the upkeep costs are simply too high, making it impossible for us to continue running the game,” read a company statement.

“As of now, you will not be able to buy any more premium currency,” the message continued, before asking users to visit Gameforge’s website to sample other free-to-play titles.

The cancellation of Katsuro follows Gameforge’s recent decision to make about 100 jobs redundant, as well as cancel other titles.
