Hacker bomb threat diverts plane with SOE president on board

Over the weekend a group of hackers issued a bomb threat that forced American Airlines to divert a flight carrying the president of Sony Online Entertainment.

The hackers messaged the airline’s Twitter account claiming they had received reports there were explosives on flight 362.

SOE president John Smedley then confirmed over the social network his flight had been diverted to Phoenix for security reasons.

A representative of SOE confirmed to Kotaku the FBI is now investigating the incident.

The news comes as the PlayStation Network suffered outages due to a DDoS attack, which the same group of hackers has claimed responsibility for. Sony has since said the service is now back online and no personal information was accessed.

Other titles including RuneScape and Eve Online, as well as a host of other online games, have also been hit by similar attacks.
