Huge NCsoft donation to Japan quake relief

MMO developer and publisher NCsoft will turn an entire month’s revenues into a donation for quake-struck Japan, according to reports.

The South Korean headquartered group will channel 500 million yen – about $6.1 million – to an earthquake relief fund.

NCsoft will be South Korea’s biggest charity donator to Japan, with a donation five times larger than that of the country’s largest automaker, Hyundai Motor Group.

Kotaku reports that the donation will be made through NCJapan, “a 60-40 joint venture between NCsoft and Japan’s Softbank Corp”

Earlier in the week, a consortium of Japanese companies – from Sony to Sega Sammy to Nintendo – pledged $12 million to the country.

Square Enix has announced it would donate to the disaster-struck nation, with as much as $1.2 million put forward.

Seven days have passed since the Tohoku Pacific Earthquakes and Tsunami.

A week after quake, death toll in Japan has climbed past 6,500. Towns have been devastated, particularly in the North East of the island, while some 380,000 people are living out of home at support facilities.

Trading has suffered from the devastation. Games companies have cancelled projects, delayed releases and suspended office work.
