IN PICTURES: Wii U launch

The Wii U officially launched in the UK at HMV Oxford Street last night, with hundreds turning up to get their hands on the new console.

Mario and Luigi were on hand to greet guests – led by Izzy Rahman and pals, who had been camping outside since the weekend – alongside some ZombiU zombies, Connor from Assassin’s Creed III and Just Dance dancers.

The Official Nintendo Magazine demonstrated the multiplayer antics of Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros U, with editor Chandra Nair taking to the stage to talk fans through the key features. Then Ubisoft’s Richard Barlaos showcased flagship third-party title ZombiU.

And, in addition to the promised freebies for the first 500 people in the queue, there was a raffle for some colletible gaming goodies.
