Job losses at Rift dev Trion Worlds

Around 40 jobs have been lost at Trion Worlds.

Gamasutra reports that the Rift developer has chopped around a third of its workforce, including artists and designers. It is not known whether the losses affected just the Rift team specifically.

The studio has said that the move was "in response to market conditions, product timelines and the natural evolution of our company”.

The company has never released player numbers for its title.

UPDATE: MCV had previously stated that an expansion for the game was subsequently released for free. Trion has contacted MCV to clarify that Rift and its expansion content is free for former subscribers between Dec 14th and Dec 18th only, as part of a promotion.
