Kinect sales reach 2.5m

Total global sales of Xbox 360 Kinect have now hit 2.5m units, platform holder Microsoft has announced.

The device had previously sold 1m units in its first 10 days of availability. These numbers show that an additional 1.5m cameras have sold in the following two weeks.

It means that the peripheral is already close to Microsoft’s initial 2010 sales target of 3m units.

However, it will have to maintain the same sales momentum for the rest of the year if it hopes to meet Microsoft’s most recent 5m sales estimate for the year.

"We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand," Microsoft’s president of the Interactive Entertainment Business Don Mattrick stated.

With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5m units sold to consumers this holiday.”
